Ranch Orientation – Introduction to the Equestrian Program 

Monday AM serves as Orientation for all adult riders. If a guest plans on riding at any point during their stay, they must attend Orientation. Following the verbal Orientation presentation, guests who are signed up may participate in a trail ride or can sit in on a Round Pen Demonstration in the indoor arena. Afternoon trail rides are available for sign-ups as well. Any guests who classify themselves as Intermediate or Advanced and wish to participate in Advanced Trail Rides during their stay, must participate in the Lope Assessment on Monday PM. 

Sign up for all rides is required to ensure your spot.

Tack will be adjusted to fit riders.

Introductory Trail Rides (All Levels, Walk Only) 
These introductory rides will concentrate on making sure all riders have a good relationship with their horse, are comfortable in their tack and have a basic understanding of horsemanship. Take this opportunity to ride with adult friends and family of all levels.

Horsemanship Round Pen Clinic (Non-Riding Experience)

Location: Indoor Arena
Immerse yourself in our Round Pen Clinic, where you’ll learn to communicate with your horse from the ground using subtle body language cues. This clinic focuses on controlling your horse’s feet, movement, direction, and pace through positive reinforcement. You’ll gain insights into how horses communicate and work on building a strong partnership between you and your horse. We’ll practice working with a halter and lead rope utilizing natural horsemanship principles. Key skills include leading, stopping, backing, circle work, and lateral flexion. The round pen setting allows for a closer, more personal interaction between you and your horse—enhancing your communication and understanding.

Note: Mandatory for all guests who wish to participate in Intermediate or Advanced Trail Rides throughout the remainder of the week.

Horses and Happy Hour and Herd Tour in Pasture

Location: East Meadow 

Enjoy a few adult cocktails while you mingle among our herd of 200 horses. Learn to recognize the different social structures within the herd. Find your assigned horse and learn about his/her group of friends and where they fall in the social hierarchy of the herd. Do not forget your cameras! This is a great chance to get some beautiful photos.

9:10 AM Advanced – Intermediate Trail Ride Mount Up 

9:10 AM Cattle Sorting Mount Up | Sign up in the Outfitter’s Cabin

Our Cattle Sorting Ride is designed for our advanced and intermediate guests. Mount up and head to the pasture, where you’ll locate and gather the cattle, driving them into the arena. Once in the arena, you’ll team up to identify and separate a specific numbered cow into a designated pen. This activity emphasizes control and advanced riding skills, including maneuvers like turning on the haunches. It’s a thrilling and skillful experience that combines teamwork, precision, and horsemanship.  

9:15 AM Basic Refresher and Instructional Trail Ride Mount Up 

All Instructional Rides will be split into different levels. We will concentrate on making sure all riders have control at the trot, are able to sit and post the trot, and have a general understanding of riding basics and horsemanship. Demonstration of control at the trot and a good seat is required before lope rides. Basic Refresher and Instructional rides will advance as the week continues.

Introduction to Riding Clinic (Part I) Walk/Trot Only | Sign up in the Outfitter’s Cabin

Location: Outdoor Arena

The clinic is geared toward beginner or first-time riders. In this clinic we will go over how to best communicate with your horse and riding basics such as steering at the walk, different speeds within the walk gate, introduction to the posting and sitting trot, how to sit properly in the saddle, hold the reins, stop your horse correctly, etc.

A riding clinic geared toward our intermediate riders. Focus on cementing proper horsemanship at the trot and begin to introduce the lope based on ability and comfort level.

Friday Morning serves as “Family Ride” for guests who have any participants in the Children’s Program. As such, the morning trail ride slot is dedicated to the adults who are riding with their children. The afternoon trail ride slot if available for sign ups.

Family Trail Ride Mounts – ALL MOUNTING BLOCKS | Sign up in the Outfitter’s Cabin

We will mount all family members at the same time. Kids and Teens will mount at the Kids/Teen Mounting Block and Adults will mount at the Adult mounting block. Families will gather in the outdoor arena and then head out on the trail with their favorite wrangler and counselor! This is a great photo opportunity, so be sure to wear your finest western wear!

Shodeo

Location: Outdoor Arena

At the end of the week, our outdoor arena hosts the famous C Lazy U Ranch Shodeo! Riders of all ages are split into their age groups to compete in various events to showcase their acquired horsemanship skills. Adults demonstrate their quality horsemanship and progress made during the week by guiding their horse through a challenging obstacle course. While the kids are the star of the show, adults are also encouraged to compete for the world-renowned Blue Ribbon, for bragging rights, and (most importantly) for glory!

Grooming Clinics Available – Non-Riding Experience

Location: Assigned Manger 

Relax and spend some time grooming horses from the herd. Get to know your assigned horse and deepen your bond! For our non-riders, we still have plenty of horses that need some extra love and attention! Get in touch with an Equestrian Team Member to determine the best time to setup a grooming clinic.

Please Note: If you would like to groom in lieu of a trail ride, your horse will be untacked prior to grooming.

Trail Obstacles Available

Location: Shorty’s Corral 

Learn how to maneuver your horse through our trail obstacle course. Deepen your communication and trust with your horse as you ride over many of our custom trail obstacles. From balance beams to teeter totters, our obstacle course has something for every level of rider. Our trail obstacles are setup out on one of our popular trails. Ask your wrangler about heading that way if you would like to try out the obstacles during your trail ride!
