Children’s Programming

Our children’s program offers a unique summer camp-like experience for kids and parents. Accommodating children ages three to seventeen, the children’s program is designed to encourage friendship, horsemanship, and fun, all within the culture of the Colorado ranch experience and the great outdoors. Our enthusiastic counselors love their jobs and groups are divided by age ensuring your children are getting close supervision during all ranch activities.

Our children’s program is split into four age groups:

  • Cowpokes (3-5)
  • Mustangs (6-10)
  • Outlaws (11-12)
  • Teens (13-17)

Mustangs, Outlaws and Teens enjoy two daily rides, while the Cowpokes participate in pony rides, or enjoy donkey cart rides from our beloved Sicilian donkeys. For all age groups, the program begins at 8:45 a.m. and continues until noon, followed by a break for lunch and family time. The afternoon session begins at 1:45 p.m. and goes until 4:00 p.m. Then, at 6:00 p.m. the children re-join their counselors for dinner and an evening activity while the adults take advantage of cocktail hour and dinner at the lodge. After dinner, families reconnect for evening entertainment.

Cowpokes

Days are filled with pony rides, arts and crafts, swimming, or playing on our playground equipment. Cowpokes also hunt for golden horseshoes all over the ranch and help take care of our miniature donkeys or older kids horses. In the Shodeo on Saturdays, cowpokes wave to their parents from an authentic buckboard as they parade around the arena pulled by our team.

Mustangs & Outlaws

Mustangs and Outlaws are split into riding groups based primarily on age and riding ability. The kids ride twice a day, and although their rides are a little shorter and slower than the teen and adult rides, they are still packed with fun. Counselors will play games out on the trail to allow for a safety break. Mustangs & Outlaws also get to take part in a Cowboy/Cowgirl lunch out in the woods. Some of their evening activities include the Kids’ Carnival, Talent Show, and Capture the Flag! Depending on their age, Mustangs and Outlaws will participate in the Great Grape Race, barrel racing, pole bending, and the Texas T at our famous Saturday afternoon Shodeo.

Teens

Teens await their horses

The teen program is an expanded version of the children’s program. Our teen counselors understand the need for a versatile agenda that will accommodate all types of riders and personalities. The teens enjoy longer and more challenging trail rides as well as their own age appropriate activities. Some of these activities include attending the local rodeo, go-cart racing, white water rafting, ropes course and an overnight campout. Teens also participate in the Shodeo, showing their skills barrel racing, pole bending or on a team obstacle course.

All our counselors are certified in First Aid, CPR and basic water safety, and carefully vetted through background checks before hiring. Each counselor is passionate about our program and has extensive experience working with kids and horses. Regardless of your child’s interests and skill level, our counselors ensure they have a safe, fun and memorable experience.
